Hotel Information

A block of guest rooms has been reserved at several hotels for AGS meeting attendees.  Book early as the room block sells out quickly and space is limited!  The cut-off date for reservations at AGS group rates is April 7. Reservations will be accepted until this date or until the room blocks sell out.  Please review the hotel's cancellation and refund policy when making your reservation.

Tips for Making Reservations:

  • If you're calling in to a hotel, say “American Geriatrics Society,” not AGS.
  • Get the name of the person with whom you made the reservation.
  • If you receive an error message when clicking on a link, check your browser. Google Chrome works best with all hotels.
  • Take note of the cancellation and credit card policies.
  • Be sure you are choosing the correct hotel (for example: there are multiple Courtyard's in Portland). If a reservation agent indicates the American Geriatrics Society does not have a block, it is quite likely it could be the wrong hotel.
  • If you run into challenges online, call the hotel directly at the number listed here. Make sure you receive a confirmation email!
  • Please note that if you are booking at the Crowne Plaza - this site is not personalized to American Geriatrics Society, however, you will still receive the AGS contracted rate.

A Note Regarding Portland & #AGS19

We are writing to share an update on our engagement with leaders in Portland following December 2018’s deeply disturbing incident of profiling and racism at the Doubletree by Hilton Portland in our host city for #AGS19.

To be clear: The mistreatment of any individual based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation, age, or national origin is and will always be inconsistent with our values at the AGS. In the interest of upholding those values and our commitment to transparency, we are sharing this additional information on our response.

What Happened?

In brief, the DoubleTree by Hilton Portland—one of six hotels with a block of rooms reserved for #AGS19—recently issued an apology and outlined some corrective actions after a registered African-American guest was removed from the hotel lobby by security without cause.

What Steps Has AGS Taken?

Immediately after learning about the incident, we had initial conversations with all hotels, Travel Portland, the Oregon Convention Center, and the regional government agency. In these discussions, we shared our concerns and our position statement on discrimination. We made very clear that our number one priority is our attendees feeling safe, respected, treated with dignity and in accordance with their rights.

These conversations are ongoing and we have asked for additional data from groups who have met recently in Portland regarding their conference attendee experiences. Our understanding is that other organizations with upcoming conferences have also initiated these discussions, and the Portland team is taking this seriously.

We also have asked the DoubleTree and all official #AGS19 hotels for specifics on their plans and programs to support diversity training and person-centered sensitivity. We recognize these platforms are not a panacea for eliminating bias and discrimination, but we know they represent an important first step. We will use our voices to emphasize the need for a substantive and ongoing investment in these activities and a commitment to ensuring respect for all.

We will keep you apprised of any new developments as they become available.
