Sponsored by the Tideswell Special Interest Group and the Association of Directors of Geriatrics Academic Programs

Planned in collaboration with the Tideswell Scholars Special Interest Group, this workshop is for junior to mid-faculty career geriatricians who are pursuing careers in academic geriatrics with a focus on resilience, persistence, and the value of community in times of uncertainty. Our panelists, all Tideswell Scholars, will offer perspectives on how resilience and persistence have been critical in their academic careers and will speak to the importance of finding your people and the value of building a community. Topics they will touch upon include the importance of being flexible, finding joy, and being persistent. They have a diverse range of career experiences and funding streams and have co-authored an article in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (JAGS) that touches upon some of these same themes. The panel presentation will be followed by roundtables that offer a space for attendees to share their own strategies for maintaining their careers during uncertain times. Learning Objectives: (1) understand the importance of resilience, persistence, and community when building an academic career; (2) meet and learn from peers who are pursuing careers in academics. (3) learn about tools and strategies for maintaining joy during difficult times.
